Until the 1990s, Broadway High Street was home to the Gordon Russell furniture factory. Gordon Russell himself literally set the standard by which all British furniture was made in the 1940s, as he chose the designs and approved the specification for Utility furniture, the only kind that could be made in the country during the Second World War.
